Having four regions within one country which is located in the middle of the world, makes it pretty easy for travellers to find good weather conditions the whole year round. Ecuador experiences two seasons within the year. One is the rainy season or locally known as winter (invierno) which usually starts from the end of November until the end of May. The rest of the year is summer (verano) or the dry season, it begins in June and goes until the end of November. It must be noted that in Ecuador the weather relies mainly on each regions environment and their particular conditions within the seasons. However, in general terms Ecuadorian weather is categorised as subtropical.
Pacific Coast
The rainy season in this region is high for tourism due to its sunny days and warm waters. These warm conditions come with periodic showers. Average temperatures are 28 ºc in the rainy season and 24 ºc in summer. The best months to enjoy the coast and get a golden tan are from December to May. Also, these months offers perfect conditions for surfers who look for glassy waters and offshore winds.
Andes
The lowest temperatures are found in this region. They can range from 7 ºc to 25 ºc generally depending on altitude. The Andes mountain range creates this variety of conditions due to its volcanoes, glaciers, valleys, and forests. The summer months offer perfect conditions to have the best view of all its magnificent volcanoes' peaks without freezing to death. Hiking and cycling are good sports activities at the well known avenue of volcanoes.
Amazon
The Amazon region doesn't experience big changes in its weather depending on the seasons. In both seasons travellers will have the opportunity to experience flora and fauna that are distinct to each one. For instances, in winter is easier to spot primates at the rivers' edges feeding on the abundance of fruits, while during the dry season river beaches appear where lots of bird will build their nests. The average temperature in the Amazon is 26 ºc with high humidity. Moreover, this region has constant rain throughout the year with precipitations of 2500 mm annually. However, rain is more likely to happen in the first months of the year.
The Galápagos Islands
As in the Amazon, this archipelago offers the chance to spot wildlife the whole year round. The weather in the islands is similar to that of the coast although here it is possible to find slightly lower temperatures in the summer months due to its exposure to sea breezes that accompany northern currents. The high tourism season is from December to June in which the average temperature is set at 29 ºc with sunny days, warm waters and periodic rains. After, the islands' weather will turn into more cold and dry conditions until November. Local species like giant tortoises, blue-footy boobies, marine iguanas and penguins can be seen performing different behaviours throughout the year. For instance, in February the penguin migration happens to Bartolome island while in September they start their courtship season.
