About Andes
The Andes mountain range crosses the whole of Ecuador with the coast on one side of its highlands and the
Amazon on the other side. This region includes eight Natural Protected Areas and a majestic avenue of
volcanoes, often snow capped creating a beautiful landscape for the pleasure of its visitors. Among its peaks,
the Andes offers amazing places perfect for camping, trekking, biking, climbing, bird watching, rafting, horse

The highlands are accompanied by historical cities located within the Andean peaks, such as the World Heritage
site and capital city of Quito in the north, and the colonial gem of Cuenca in the South. Get lost wandering
through the colourful streets of these cities and smaller towns and try the traditional cuisine. Be in two
hemispheres at once just outside the capital, with a trip to the "Middle of the World" a place located at
latitude and longitude zero.
Indigenous people have historically inhabited the Andes, and many still practise traditional customs and
rituals and it is possible to see some of their handicrafts at local markets within the region.
